Eight-year-old Nåmi's greatest wish to get a Tamagotch for Christmas has just come true. This Christmas is absolutely perfect. Apart from father who is in a coma in the hospital, mother whispering on the phone and the vegetables in Nåmi's soup accusing her of murder. It was her cold that got into his brain. To avoid her own feelings of guilt, Nåmi becomes obsessed with keeping her Tamagotch alive. A film directed by Ditte Lindroth and Anna Furenmo in a series of graduation films from the Stockholm Academy of Arts.

『A Soul of city』

The name Kiruna comes from the Sami word Giron, which means Mountain Grouse.The young city of Kiruna got its name because from a distance it could look as if the two mountains Luossavaara and Kiirunavaara looked like two Ripos sitting and talking to each other.Nowadays, the tops/heads of both mountains are stripped. One of which is the city's Slalombacke and the oldest opencast mine. Then they started mining the ore from Kiirunavaara, which in Sami is called Gironvarri, which directly translates to Fjällripafjället.Now Kiruna will move and parts of the city will become a mine hole. I ask myself; What is the soul of a city?

『A sami in the city』

I investigate the big city Stockholm from my perspective and in a sami way. I conduct the investigation with the purpose to learn new words. What do you call a skyscraper or a shopwindow or the concrete. How do you say: I am walking here on the pedestrian street, but now I am entering a fashion shop. Wow! What a nice dress, gotta have it. I am carrying a dictionary and a phone… in emergencies I can call up my relatives up north and ask if there is something I don´t understand. I put post-it notes on everything I see and want to leran. Document it with my camera.

Work-in-process, a part of my project Kiruna The Drift Block. Kiruna cracks ... What happens in the intervals between place and person? Places and human history? The place and its memory? Life that once lived on the place? I filmed in an empty apartment in the area Bromsgatan in Kiruna, short after the family had moved out from it. Shortly after, the house was demolished. The films is a part of a Bigger Picture of the moving of Kiruna City.

I investigate the body as a tool, a house, flesh. I learn what the different parts of my body are called in sami language. I do this in my home. Me in my body among my things that I identify with. I try out my different sami attributes on my body: like the kolt (traditional dress), the belt, the shoes, the jewellery. ”You are only at home in your self” – a little being said to me. If I feel good in my body, then I feel good anywhere.

『The city sami in the woods』

I want to learn more about the forest in a sami way. I bring along a blanket, some coffee and a sandwich and I go to the forest. I´m thinking about the sami nature creatures from the old mythology and at the same time I am learning new words in sami. I bring with me a pen. I´m writing the sami words on a tree, a rock, soil, roots. The leaves are burning in autumn colours, I make this film when the forest is at its most beautiful state.

『Green Mountain』

The song is about the mountain Mertainen, situated 20 km south of Kiruna. The mining company LKAB has started to take out iron ore from the mountain. Mertainen has always been an important place for the Gábna Sami village.
