Þröstur is 8 years old, his older sister Dagný is 13. After hearing the myths of werewolves returning to Iceland, Þröstur has more to worry about than just the elves and trolls. One full-moon night Þröstur wakes with a start and sees Dagný’s bed is empty, he goes to her bedside to find blood spots on her bedsheets. Þröstur believes his sister is becoming a werewolf. This film retells the suffering saga of menstruation as a mythical metamorphosis through the eyes of a reverent younger brother. In Iceland where trees are starting to grow over the barren landscape as the glaciers melt, rumors are spreading over the playground that with the trees the werewolves are coming back! One night young Þröstur wakes to find blood in the bedsheets of his 13 year old sister... could it be, his own sister, a werewolf?
The tale of menstruation as one of magic and fairytales and not of suffering. Telling not only the change she feels in herself but also the burden of an oncoming responsibility: a changing climate reality she did not ask for. -

Courteous formality, allusive sexuality, and mysterious nature entwine at the annual flower show. During the celebration, wild flowers are stomped to the ground. In the woods, nature and fragile leg hairs continue to grow. The poetic film portrays a fragmented story of how girls have been cultivated like flowers for generations. We need more growing seasons to breed new ways into the system. -

The name Kiruna comes from the Sami word Giron, which means Mountain Grouse. The young city of Kiruna got its name because from a distance it could look as if the two mountains Luossavaara and Kiirunavaara looked like two Ripos sitting and talking to each other.Nowadays, the tops/heads of both mountains are stripped. One of which is the city's Slalombacke and the oldest opencast mine. Then they started mining the ore from Kiirunavaara, which in Sami is called Gironvarri, which directly translates to Fjällripafjället. Now Kiruna will move and parts of the city will become a mine hole. I ask myself; What is the soul of a city? -

A journey led by patterns, far and deep.Starting from the karakami patterns handed down for 400 years in Kyoto, Japan, going around the world pursuing physis (nature as it is), which has been transformed into patterns since the Paleolithic period. Transcending time and space, you will see in between...Karacho is a traditional workshop in Kyoto. For 400 years, products and art called karakami, which are handprinted patterns on Japanese paper, have been handed down. This film begins from a scene of this workshop. Since the Edo period (17th-19th century), Karacho has inherited wooden painting blocks, on which patterns with motifs of plants, clouds, swirls and ripples are carved. The film shows the work performed in the workshop: earth- and mineral-derived paint and mica are placed on the painting block to make patterns printed on washi paper. The karakami produced by repetition is breathtakingly beautiful; itself a form of nature, with movements, rhythms and coloring that emerge. The camera carefully captures the patterns, forms of nature, and the atmosphere. Patterns have lived on in many places, like the Aoi Matsuri and Gion Matsuri festivals in Kyoto, temples, shrines, and tea ceremony spaces. Also, they are found in the line engravings on rocks in Italy from about 10,000 years ago, and in mosaics adorning ancient Roman cathedrals, as well as in the culture passed down among the Ainu people in Hokkaido, Japan. As if guided by patterns, places are connected across time and space, becoming a journey. The film includes interviews with notable figures: an artistic director of Hermès, Akira Minagawa, designer of minä perhonen, and Hiroshi Tomura, a contemporary artist. They speak about their inspiration from nature and their own creations. The secret Ainu rituals and prayers to deities in the mountains show the relationships among people, nature and patterns. A record of the journey through patterns, expanding from a small workshop in Kyoto to multiple layers around the world, will remind us again of the important senses that we have forgotten and the connection to the archaic layer of all humanity. -

I investigate the big city Stockholm from my perspective and in a sami way. I conduct the investigation with the purpose to learn new words. What do you call a skyscraper or a shopwindow or the concrete. How do you say: I am walking here on the pedestrian street, but now I am entering a fashion shop. Wow! What a nice dress, gotta have it. I am carrying a dictionary and a phone… in emergencies I can call up my relatives up north and ask if there is something I don´t understand. I put post-it notes on everything I see and want to leran. Document it with my camera. -

Work-in-process, a part of my project Kiruna The Drift Block. Kiruna cracks ... What happens in the intervals between place and person? Places and human history? The place and its memory? Life that once lived on the place? I filmed in an empty apartment in the area Bromsgatan in Kiruna, short after the family had moved out from it. Shortly after, the house was demolished. I investigate the body as a tool, a house, flesh. I learn what the different parts of my body are called in sami language. I do this in my home. Me in my body among my things that I identify with. I try out my different sami attributes on my body: like the kolt (traditional dress), the belt, the shoes, the jewellery. ”You are only at home in your self” – a little being said to me. If I feel good in my body, then I feel good anywhere. -

I´m thinking about the sami nature creatures from the old mythology and at the same time I am learning new words in sami. I bring with me a pen. I´m writing the sami words on a tree, a rock, soil, roots. The leaves are burning in autumn colours, I make this film when the forest is at its most beautiful state. -

Producer Yuriko Taniguchi is here! Q&A time scheduled after the movie screening
【From the film festival office】
Movies are a way to express feelings. In addition to becoming a director and making movies myself, I sometimes start making movies in the position of a ``producer.'' There are times when you can complete a movie by connecting people and things that you can shoot yourself and do without editing. This movie is about Yuriko Taniguchi who meets the people of Toyohashi and says, ``Let's make a movie with these people and this place!'' I worked hard with this passion, and it took shape. Fierce fireworks are set off on a snowy screen to connect the feelings of parents and children. Please come and see it. We have warm drinks ready for you.
We are planning to have hot drinks made over a bonfire at the Snow Theater during the screening.
【menu】
1.Sweet and sour warm Swedish hot berry juice
2.Finnish coffee is made in the forest by putting beans in a kettle and setting it on a bonfire.
※The screening will be held outdoors in a snowy mountain, so it will be held close to nature. We would like to implement this event with the safety of our audience and staff as our top priority. Screening times and drink schedules may change depending on weather conditions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
